Let's get to it!
Patchouli, sweet orange and lemongrass oils are combined together to make this wonderful scent. I like the solid in a tin because it's handy and easy to dab on... plus I like it on my hands before I run my fingers through my hair on my lazy days. I think the scent is relaxing and pleasant. Not everyone likes patchouli, though, so I know this isn't everyone's cup of tea.
I am quite the lazy beauty lady in that my lips often get neglected throughout the day. The idea of applying and letting it handle the day for me sounds divine. I also like using a gloss because it is great for us older ladies who want color without attracting attention to areas well-known for exposing our age.
Truth be told, anything that can make it through my very important morning coffee routine is awesome.
I'm not giving up my coffee routine for anyone. That's really for the safety of anyone who comes in contact with me in a day. My husband will attest to this... but I digress...
I like the color of both products. I am a big fan of soft neutrals for day wear and the Sangria color of the gloss is not dark at all. The rose liner is perfection for the new trends of softer, more natural beauty looks.
The gloss, however, didn't go a long way into the morning on day one so I'm trying a day two as I type this and I feel it is behaving a little better for me today. I lined and filled my lips with the liner, first, so even if the gloss goes matte and rubs off I still have a tint on me. The verdict is still out on the gloss but I am enjoying the liner. I only wish the pencil had a bit more substance to it. It feels delicate to hold and that's terrifying when in a big, grumpy hurry in the morning.
I don't know about you but when I stand in front of my mirror, mouth agape and applying mascara, I hate the awkward feel that comes with trying to get the corners. I also dislike having to try to sweep a bigger brush across my baby lower lashes. I don't have the doe-eyed magnificence surrounding my ocular cavity like those lucky ladies that are half my age. I need to get in there and not cake on too many layers or I'm two hot flashes away from being a racoon.
I know I'll be blowing through this tube pretty quick. I better stock up.
The other Maybelline product I picked up is their Expertwear Eye Shadow quad in Amethyst Smokes (seen in photo) and I'm glad for this purchase, too. The pigments are lovely and they glide on without effort or any pulling or dragging. They're super blendable but also packable. I put it on at 7am and 10 hours later the colors were still strong and had not smeared, faded or creased in any way.
I did not use a lot of the eggshell or black shades because I put it on for day but I will be playing more with them for party looks in the very near future. I've worn the two violet / purple shades two days in a row, however, and love them. I especially enjoy the more true amethyst of the two (top right in quad) because it's slightly iridescent and fun. The crease shade is a good crease but is matte.
Overall, I'm super happy with both of my Maybelline purchases.
Thanks to a great recommendation from my pal Vivienne Vermuth (makeup artist maven), I picked this up because I was so tired of skin issues that come with weather changes and summer months.
In the interest of transparency, let me tell you - My skin is not what it used to be and the weather affects it in many ways.
The summer heat or the winter chill make me deal with everything from itchy "chicken skin" to just itchy or breaking out.
My skin has more mood swings than a 13 year old girl during the first week of school.
I had mentioned it to Viv at our last shoot we did and she raved about this Shea Moisture African Black Soap. Now, it comes in bar or the pictured bubble bath & body wash formula. I bought the liquid.
Day one of usage - a marked improvement in the itchy feel of my skin.
Day two - not itchy, not greasy, feeling naturally moisturized and awesome.
Day three - breakout patch nearly gone and everything else feels in balance and without problem. Chicken skin is gone.
I kid you not when I say that this product has changed my little life and I think it will do the same for others. I'm getting a solid bar for my oldest son who deals with acne and I'm going to be passing this one out as a gift to friends for a long time. I can't stop talking about it.
It really helps my cold, old lady heart feel like doing this:
I'm absolutely in love with this stuff and it's going to be a staple in my life.
